We were lucky enough to have Nick Keeble and son recommended to us many years ago to fit a combi gas boiler and we have never regretted our decision since. They manage to combine a genuine friendliness with a thoroughly professional approach. They have always been very prompt and efficient and they are tidy workers. We like the fact that they are very happy to give detailed explanations of what they are doing and the logical reasons for their decisions. They have no hesitation in going the extra mile and are exceptionally conscientious and trustworthy. They have even bailed us out in emergency situations and this was totally beyond the call of duty . What is the most economical way to use central heating?
This all depends on the insulation properties of your home. The hardest (most expensive) part of heating a house is heating it from cold, therefore if you home is well insulated then you can have the heating on a couple of times a day and the house won't lose much heat in between. If your home is less well insulated then you are better off getting it warm, and then keeping the heat on low constantly, maybe increasing the heat when you want it. Think about riding a bike- it takes lots of effort to get it going, but once it is going it is fairly easy to speed up. If you let the bike stop, you have to use lots of energy to start again- it's more energy efficient to keep the wheels turning slowly. This is where programmable room thermostats can save you lots of money. You can have them set between 19-21 when you want the heating on, then set back to 16-17 when you don't necessarily want the heating on, but the house won't get too cold, then back to 19-21 in the evening.
What are the advantages of installing a system boiler?
Installing a system boiler will mean the system will be bespoke to your home. It will have a separate hot water cylinder with immersion heater so you will have a back up should the boiler fail. The system will also incorporate standard system controls so will be cheaper and easier to fix in the future. A system boiler will also be able to be smaller in terms of kw rating than a combi which will improve longevity and efficiency. A system boiler and unvented cylinder is basically the best set up you can have for terms of hot water delivery and heating.
At what temperature do pipes freeze in the UK?
Generally when the weather stays below 0 degrees for a couple of days in a row. Obviously pipework placement and insulation has an effect. Also wind chill can be a massive factor, even a draft on a pipe in a cold area can cause it to freeze. It’s always best to ensure pipework is lagged in unheated areas
