What are the benefits of installing an unvented cylinder?
Unvented hot water cylinders have many benefits, the main one is high flow rates at taps and showers without the need for any pumps. This means no noisy shower pump, and no costly replacement if the pump breaks down. Also, because the system runs off the mains supply you no longer need a cold water storage tank in the loft. Unvented cylinders are highly efficient due to their excellent insulation, meaning quicker heat recovery times.
What is a combi boiler & how do combi boilers work?
A combi boiler delivers hot water instantly on demand, meaning there is no separate hot water cylinder. This means you can save space in your home as you won't have a tank in the wiring cupboard or loft, making combi boilers great for flats and houses with 1 bathroom. The downside to a combi boiler is that if the boiler breaks down, there is no back up hot water, like you would have with a hot water cylinder with an immersion heater.
Why is my hot water not getting hot enough?
There is a number of issues that can affect the hot water temperature, depending on the type of system. If it is a open vented system it could be a fault with the cylinder stat, or it could be as simple as just having turn turn the temperature up For a combi boiler it could be a blocked plate heat exchanger.
