Is a boiler service a legal requirement?
No not a legal requirement, but if boiler is under warranty of some insurance policy then these require it to be done for it to continue valid. Also having it done could save you having more costly repairs by diagnosing them sooner. Only thing is to make sure that you get the service done by a reputable person, that you know will carry it out properly, otherwise could be a waste of money.
Why is my boiler making a whistling / kettling noise?
If it does it all the time whether in central heating or hot water it is possible that the main heat exchanger is partially blocked. If it does it only on hot water it could be the plate heat exchanger is partially blocked. It really could be any number of issues but perhaps these are the most common. Ut would be best to get it professionally looked at.
What are the benefits of installing an unvented cylinder?
It gives you a good constant supply of hot water at mains pressure. Also enables you to run multiple draw offs at the same time. Brilliant for showers. You can also have an immersion so then have back up for if the boiler goes down you can still have hot water. Really does give peace of mind to have that back up and water and good pressure.
