I’m afraid if you have boiler fault that is showing an error code it’s best to get a diagnostic visit from a Gassafe registered engineer who can carry out tests on your boiler to determine the fault there is usually a charge for this work a boiler service should be carried out once a year this can help the efficiency and check for any problems that may occur in the future

NO. A boiler service is to ensure that it is working satisfactorily. It involves cleaning, checking that the correct amount of gas is supplied and ensuring the combustion is within the manufacturers instructions. Any faults on your boiler should be repaired before any service is carried out.

No a boiler service will not fix a fault on a boiler. A boiler service is checking that the appliance is working exactly like it should. it involves cleaning certain parts, checking gas rates/pressure and a combustion check using a flue gas analyser. If a boiler has a fault this needs to be fixed before a service can take place. Having your boiler service at regular intervals (12 months) will hopefully show potential issues that can be fixed before it becomes very expensive or the winter months start and your boiler is not working.

A boiler service isn’t designed to fix a fault,if you have a fault then you should book a repair call first. Some minor repairs such as low water pressure or a small leak may be able to be fixed at the time of the service call. Servicing can also highlight potential problems so they can be repaired.

A boiler service could bring up a fault that's been underlined. On most occasions on a full strip down engineers will notice Probes to be bent out of shape due to the high temperatures in side a boiler. Some boilers suffer greatly to Explosive Ignition, meaning the boilers slow ignition can be late in catching the gas and making a loud bang on ignition.

A boiler service could fix a boiler fault but not always. Some issues like low heating pressure can be sorted on the visit. A boiler service is to check the safety controls of the boiler, clean the burner if necessary, and make sure the boiler is running safely to the manufactures specification. If not we can advise you on what the best plan of action is.

In short no it won't as that would be a boiler breakdown call out rather than an annual boiler service. A boiler service is there to annually clean the main components of your boiler, check its safety and see if its running efficiently and without fault. A boiler service may well pick up an underlying issue that may cause your boiler to breakdown In the future but that would then be relayed back to you at the end of the service and be booked in as a completely separate job, as the issue may well require new parts and for the boiler to be completely stripped down to access certain components meaning longer labour time and parts costs. If you live in or around the Snodland, Maidstone or Rochester areas then please feel free to enquire about our annual boiler service and our breakdown services that we offer here at LP Plumbing and Heating Ltd.

Depending on the type of fault a service may fix it. This might be an indication that the boiler hasn't been serviced on a regular basis, as an example poor combustion due to a dirty burner that hasn't been cleaned. Also during a service a lot of common faults can be highlighted and rectified, during some major services like a 5 yearly burner graphite seal on a Vaillant will mean an engineer is able to clean out a heat exchanger and replace the seal anyway.

Not always. We always need to know wether or not the boiler has any faults. If we know then there is more of a chance that the boiler can be repaired during the service. Extra parts may be needed. A service is to prevent faults in the future and make sure the system is running safely and efficiently.

DLM GAS Ltd answered the question "Will a boiler service fix my faulty boiler?"

At DLM Gas we encounter this scenario on a regular basis and always advise customers to be as open as possible about faults when an engineer attends a service visit. A service should always include a degree of inspection and cleaning, sometimes gasket replacements etc too. This can sort issues, but not many on a modern boiler.
