Each decorator will give you a different answer to this questions as we all have our own preferences! I personally like the new improved formulation of Johnstones Stormshield - it is shower proof in 20 minutes which in Ireland is a real bonus due to the amount of rain.......... Most brands of paint which are from "Trade" shops will be decent - but I'd suggest you avoid buying paint from large DIY stores. The DIY stores paint will likely be thinner, hence more likely to be splashed about and also more coats will be needed to achieve the finish desired.

There are no hard and fast rules for the best brand ,it will be down to the preference of the decorator.Personally i prefer using a brand called Tikkurila for renders preferring a silicate based masonry but i also like their products for woodwork but at the moment i`m using Johnstones flexible stormshield for windows and doors . Sikkens is a very good choice for staining timber but again it is down to preference

The outdoor painting means you can paint the wall, wood or metal so for each of these surfaces you need to use different types of paint. For walls, weather shield masonry paint from Dulux is most used in the UK. For Wood, Cuprinol Garden Shades is the best you can use, and the one after this brand is Johnstone's Shed & Fence. For Metal, Hammerite Smooth Black or different colour is the winner. And the cheaper version of this could be Ronseal No rust metal paint.
