Poor hot water performance on a not so great incoming mains pressured house. multiple hot water draw offs and the same time will reduce flow rate. leaving the customer frustrated when he/she is in the shower. The pressure will drop rapidly when 2 or more taps are open at the same time.

There are couple of disadvantages with having a Combi boiler system. Firstly, there is no immersion heater back up that you would usually have with a hot water cylinder. This could be a problem If your Combi boiler ever failed. Secondly their hot water delivery can be a problem in larger properties. In most cases, if your home has more than 1 bathroom, a Combi may not be suitable if you would like to run two outlets simultaneously .

The main disadvantage of a combi boiler is no stored hot water back up in case of when your boiler is faulty. A simple way around this is to have an electric shower installed as this will mean you will always have hot water even when your combi boiler is broken. The other disadvantage is that not many combi boilers can supply 2 showers running at once so for larger households this could be an issue

The main disadvantage of a combination boiler is the fact you have no electrical back up as with a traditional system. But in General the advantages are far greater in some properties. Cheaper to run as much hot water as you require.Potable water to all outlets.Less space taken up with Hot & cold water tanks. Insurance companies prefer them a son tanks in lofts. Would recommend anyone have a Gas safe engineer advise on system design.

Disadvantages for combi boilers would be hot water takes priority so if the heating is switched on and someone uses a shower the combi boiler would switch to hot water mode. Another disadvantage would be the loss of pressure when 2 outlets are opened, so if the shower is running and someone opens a tap the shower would loose pressure. BoilerOne recommend you ask a gas safe registered engineer to advise on the best boiler for you.

installing a combi you remove the stored hot water option, so if the combi where to go wrong you would have no back up as the immersion option has gone, also you lose the stored hot water which means in some instances you lose water pressure via the hot taps, this may not be the case of you had an unvented hot water system , combination boilers obviously have lots of intericate parts to make them work and these can go wrong, where as a standard boiler doesn't have all these inside so less prone to breaking down.

Main disadvantage with a combi boiler is low water pressure and waiting time to fill a bath and or multiple users trying to use hot water at the same time. Also scaling of the secondary heat exchanger within the boiler if you live in a hard water area. The other thing is no combi runs the central heating and hot water at the same time so if someone is running a bath then the central heating would be off. Most combis only have a 15mm hot water output and a 15mm cold water input which restricts the amount of water passing through the boiler so restricts its usage

A combi boiler is dependant on your mains cold water supply pressure, if this is poor at your property this may hinder a combi boilers performance. also on many occasions there is no hot water back up from a combi boiler, on stored hot water cylinders on many occasions an electrical immersion heater is available as back up. Combi boilers become less desirable the bigger the property.

Cliff Plumbing & Heating Limited answered the question "What are the disadvantages of installing a combi boiler?"

The disadvantages of a combination boiler would be you have no backup hot water (whereas with a hot water cylinder you do) unless you have an electric shower. A combi boiler cannot run the heating and hot water demand at the same time. The hot water flow rate will be less than a mains pressured hot water cylinder, so these are not suited to larger households with multiple bathrooms. Can sometimes struggle to run a bath and other outlets (depends on boiler KW output and pipework size to outlets)
