What happens if you paint wet plaster?
If you do not let the plaster to fully dry the will not stick to the fresh plaster and eventually it will start to flask off the plaster. Always let the plaster fully dry this will be a pinky colour and then use a mist coat (adding water to emulsion paint) so the paint seals the new plaster.
How long do you have to wait before painting over new plaster?
I always say leave the plaster to dry for at least a week before painting, if you can leave it for longer the better. Leave it to dry naturally and leave windows open if you are at home and not to put the heating on hoping to dry quicker this will result in the plaster to crack. Once it's dried apply 1 mist coat of water/emulsion the seal the fresh plaster.
How long does it take to plaster a ceiling?
It will all depend on the type of ceiling. If it's lathe and plaster ceiling i would recommend to over board the old ceiling then tape the joint and then apply 2 coats of multi finish, this will usually take a day to complete. If the ceiling is plasterboard with artex finished i would tape any cracks that are showing, then pva the ceiling and then apply 2 coats of multi finish, this should take half a day to complete. If it's new plasterboard again tape the joints and then apply 2 coats of multi finish, again this should take half a day to complete.
