How much does it cost to install an electric car charging station at home?
This completely varies, but it can range from approximately £900 for a very simple install, to £2500 for something more complex. In reality the situation also depends on the cost of the charger as these range from approximately £400 for the very cheapest through to well over £1000 for the more advanced (and beautiful) chargers. Alongside that, you will need to consider the distance to the charger and whether any groundworks are needed to get a cable in place. Finally the existing state of the electrical installation needs assessing, as there is often the need for an additional fuse board which all ups the cost.
What is the best home EV charger in the UK?
In reality there isn't one best EV charger. At Inspired Smart Living Ltd we've been fitting Hypervolt chargers in Hythe recently. We chose Hypervolt for several reasons, including that they are a home grown UK based company. They have an exciting innovative product which has all the relevant protection so there is no need for a potentially complex earth rod, and they provide over the air updates so you can upgrade the charger with new features as they become available. That's important as this is a rapidly developing area, and as technology like vehicle to grid, and solar charging become more normal, being able to add these features through software becomes important otherwise you risk having to replace the charger. Alongside the above, they have some very nice smart features, with Alexa integration so you can check on the status of the charger. Finally their support is awesome, with the ability to talk to a real person on the phone, in a short timeframe, making all the difference for a busy installer.
Nest vs Hive vs Tado vs Honeywell: Which is the best smart thermostat?
At Inspired Smart Living Ltd, we've been installing Tado products in the Hythe and Folkestone area. We chose Tado due to the options for thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) which enable you to control each room separately. This is particularly useful if you've an older heating system which only has one pipework zone as it means you only heat the areas you need to. The app is easy to use and has excellent scheduling features and they have excellent support for a huge range of boilers / systems. Finally if something does go wrong, then you can speak to an actual person on the phone who will talk you through fixing the issue.
