Assuming you have water from other hot water outlets within your home then this issue is best fixed by replacing the internal tap valve assembly. It is possible to repair what you have but it often breaks down again and the extra costs are minimal so not cost effective to repair. Should you have no hot water at all then this is a more complex issue with a variety of solutions so a plumber is best called out to assess.

First of all you need to check that you have water to the rest of the hot taps in the property. If so it could be that the washer assembly or seating of the tap has collapsed .Also the filter to the spout on modern taps could have built up with limescale stopping the flow of water . If this still doesn’t solve the issue, then need to look at if you have sufficient water pressure in the pipework connected to the hot tap .

There are many reasons but here’s a few.. - There is an air lock in the pipework - the tap cartridge is faulty - the water has been isolated and the valve has failed - Thames water have changed the water supply stopcock or water meter and have allowed muck/gravel into the pipe which has blocked the pipework - if there is water flowing but the water is not hot it could be an issue with the boiler

Firstly check is there hot water from the other outlets . If it’s the one tap that’s the issue it is more than likely the tap insides. If it’s traditional tap insides with a washer it’s possible the insides have worked loose from there seating. If it’s a cartridge type it could be the cartridge has stuck shut . Other possibilities could be a air lock.

It would be a good start to check if you are getting hot water from any taps in the property. To check if it is just a single tap or the whole property. If there is hot water at one tap but the rest are fine, the problem is with the single tap. Is water actually coming out of the tap or is there no flow. If you are new to the property turn on both the hot and cold tap, just in case the taps have been connected incorrectly. The cold water should always be on the left. Check for isolation valves on the pipes supplying the taps are these both open? With these answers you will be able to explain the problem to a plumber who will then give you more advice. It is always better to have as much information to give the plumber, regarding your issue, when you phone them as this can save valuable time and lengthy phone calls.

Check all other hot water outlets and if the problem persists at just one tap then it is likely that the cartridge/rubber washer has worn and has now been unwound too far causing it to stick in the closed position, this can also be found the opposite way around with the washer/cartridge stuck in the open position on both hot and cold taps. This could also be caused by draining a hot water cylinder to make repairs or install new taps and on refilling an air lock could be formed. In this situation I would recommend calling a qualified plumber for advice as incorrectly following some steps could cause damage to your hot water cylinder which could make for a very costly repair!

Peninsular Plumbing answered the question "Why is there no water coming from my hot tap?"

In a traditional tap with a tap washer, once the washer gets worn, it is possible to turn the tap off too far. This usually happens when the owner gets frustrated with a dripping tap. Then the mechanism jumps out of its seat shuts off the water and won't turn back on. This can usually be fixed by stripping down the tap & putting it back properly with a new washer.

Before you start check all outlets of all your taps in the house and if all is fine proceed as follows below: You may have a problem with the cartridge insert, it may need to be taken out and overhauled or replaced, also there could be a scale build up on the outlet too, if the tap is thermostatic the thermostatic cartridge may have failed and will need to be replaced. If water is just a trickle you may have an airlock or your cold water storage cistern may have drained.

If it is just one outlet with the problem then a valve may be shut to the outlet or a new tap washer/body/cartridge may be required. If it is all hot water then it depends on the system. You could have an air lock in the hot water system, your ball valve in the loft storage tank may be Faulty, your combi boiler may have a blockage / furred up. These would need to be investigated by a qualified engineer

If the issue is only at one particular outlet then that tap will either have a closed valve underneath it on the pipework Need a new washer or cartridge Or be airlocked If the issue is at all outlets then you will either have an air lock on the cylinder A new ball valve on your tank The cylinder may have furred up and blocked the outlet The booster pump may have broken down A valve may have been closed somewhere Or if you have an invented hot water cylinder then a new multi functional valve will be needed

Depending on the type of system you have it could be an air lock in hot water system if you had work done recently or a sticky tap valve which is quite common on hot water taps or a worn head on tap. It could be a problem with boiler been accidently switched off at cold feed if a combi boiler. could also be if in flats with a header tank that someone has accidentally switched of the wrong tap at the tank or a gate valve has failed. But it is best to get out a professional to deal with quickly and resolve the problem

A Royal Flush Plumbing answered the question "Why is there no water coming from my hot tap?"

This could be caused by a few reasons. A tap washer/ ceramic head could be the fault. there could be an air lock especially if you have had some work done recently. A pump could be the cause if on a pumped system or a filter along the system. First thing to check is it it all the hot water taps or is it just one. If it is just that tap then we know the boiler is working and it is a localised problem, if all the taps are not hot then the boiler is the first place to check, depending on if you have a combi boiler that will show a code or a cylinder where the element or thermostat could be at fault.

PipeDream Plumbing answered the question "Why is there no water coming from my hot tap?"

It depends on what type of system you have, there could be a few issues. If the problem is at one tap only, it's more than likely a tap washer at fault. If your have an unvented cylinder and you have no water coming out of the hot supply, it could be due to a blocked filter. A qualified engineer will be able to sort this problem with a service. Conventional hot water systems are prone to air locking at times, and if your on a combi boiler, its will more than likely display a fault code inflation to the lack of water supply

A.D. Energy answered the question "Why is there no water coming from my hot tap?"

This could be caused by many things. It can depend on what system you have, combi boiler, unvented cylinder etc. Or it could be that there's a problem with the hot tap itself. Firstly you would want to check the other hot outlets. If they are ok then this points to an issue with the tap or pipe to the tap. This could lead to a replacement tap or repair. If the issue is all hot taps then it could be a problem with the hot water system. For example, if the hot taps at all outlets aren't working and you have a combi boiler. This issue would point to a problem with the boiler. If an unvented cylinder system this could be an issue with the heating of the water at the cylinder, e.g, faulty zone valve or thermostat. These issues could also relate to vented systems.

Westons Plumbing & Heating Ltd answered the question "Why is there no water coming from my hot tap?"

This can be a number of issues depending on what's system you may have . It could be as simple as a tap washer has stuck inside the tap. Or a air lock in the pipework. Also if there is a pump feeding the tap this may need attention. A great starting point would be to see if you have water comeing out of all your other hot taps / outlets .
