One if the issues with wireless thermostats is that they do not have to be fixed to a certain point on the wall. The thermostat unit is temperature sensitive and if placed too close to a radiator, the boiler will not fire. Also if the unit is in a cold area like on a window sill the boiler will fire up more than may be necessary.

If your boiler thermostat is not working there could be a number of issues depending on the type. If hard wired thermostat there could be dirt on the connections or loose connections With a wireless thermostat his could need pairing correctly to the receiver. BoilerOne recommend you consult a gas safe registered engineer to diagnose the problem.
