Why are my sockets / electrical outlets not working if the fuse hasn't tripped?

If the circuit breaker hasn’t tripped the fault is called an open circuit. That means that the power leaves the consumer unit and does not arrive at the sockets. There will be a break in the cable somewhere. It could be also that there is a loose connection at the first socket which would prevent power from reaching the subsequent sockets.

If a socket isn’t working but a breaker hasn’t tripped then that would generally mean that the circuit is broken in a way that hasn’t generated a fault condition. First try a different appliance plug in a lamp, kettle, toaster... to be sure it’s not just a blown fuse or faulty hairdryer. It could be a loose connection or a break in the wire. This is the point you should bring in an electrician or competent person who has the tools and the knowledge to troubleshoot the problem and safely.

There could be a host of reasons for this. 1) is it a power cut? 2) do you test your RCD/RCBO’s as per the instructions given to you by your electrician or stuck on the front cover of the board? 3) the RCD/RCBO has tripped but the switch hasn’t dropped as it is stuck in the on position. 4) the MCB is faulty? 5) the socket or accessory is faulty 6) has the fuse blown in the plug? Have you tried another appliance in that socket? Tried that appliance in another socket? 7) If items 1,2,3,5,6 don’t give you the answer or rectify the fault then it’s time to call an electrician. They can test the accessories, the cables incase of loose or broken cable/connection, check the devices in the board are letting electricity through them and replace if necessary.

There could be a number of reasons for that there is no power without a breaker tripping. There could be a loose connection somewhere, there could be a damaged cable or one of the sockets may be faulty. An electrician will be able to make the relevant tests to determine and rectify the fault quickly and safely

There can be a few different reasons on why a RCD hasn’t tripped, it could be a break in the cable or a loose terminal or a possible faulty accessory, a electrician would be able to test the circuits and should be able to find the fault and replace what’s necessary to get the circuit working again.
