Garden fences that have an open lattice design are ideal for windy areas as they will allow wind to pass through the panel whilst still forming a screen for privacy and security. It is possible to create a suitable fence to withstand all but the most severe high winds and maintain privacy by using wooden planking attached to each side of a fence post spaced at a stagger to each face. Using a 150mm wide board spaced every 100mm vertically on one side of the post and the same on the other side of the post so that the 150mm board covers the gap of the other side and repeating vertically. You cannot see horizontally through this type of construction and yet wind passes through readily.
