Castle Heights Building & Maintenance answered the question "What type of foundation do I need for a brick wall?"

Although this is a vague question with little specific details given, generally speaking a strip footing is all that is required to build a wall. It should be a minimum width of twice the walls thickness and it’s depth will vary according to ground conditions, for example well drained virgin ground will require much shallower depth than ground that has been made up and has tree roots present. Expert advice should be sought if the wall is for the purpose of retaining soil back for a terraced patio area for example.
