No one can really say what the best paint is because every painter has their own preferences and brands what they like to use. One of the paints I like to use from Dulux would be diamond Matt which is a hard wearing durable wall paint. Another paint I would use and recommend would be Valspar V700, which is also a hardwearing durable wall paint. I find it’s a good paint for touch ups if you have any damaged walls. Apart from those choices Crown and Layland are also big competitors in the painting market. Then you have your upper market paints such as F&B and Little Green.

The most durable and easiest to clean of all paint sheens, high-gloss paint is hard, ultra-shiny, and light-reflecting. Think appliance-paint tough. High gloss is a good choice for area that sticky fingers touch -- cabinets, trim, and doors. High-gloss, however, is too much shine for interior walls

I don't think there is one best brand of paint in the UK. The best known brands in the UK are Dulux, Crown and Johnstones, alongside the designer paints like F&B, Little Greene, Zoffany, Designers Guild, to name a few. Lesser known brands that I like to draw attention to, are Tikkurila(Finland), Caparol(Germany), and Benjamin Moore(USA), and I draw attention to them because from my own experience in using them, they are leading the field in technological development. Due to the many considerations necessary for each job I look at, I would specify a product(or product system), that I believe is best suited for that specific project, regardless of who makes it.

You can ask 10 decorators this same question and I guarantee you'll have a different answer from all! I can only answer from personal choice. For emulsions I use Dulux and Armstead more than any other brand but Johnstones are as good. For woodwork my own choice is Benjamin Moore, who I think are in a league of their own when it comes to water based woodwork paint. All paints I use are trade paints, not retail that you buy from homebase or b&q, as these perform much better but thats another discussion!

Before asking what is the best interior paint, you need to decide whether you are planning to use traditional oil based products, or water based products that are getting more and more readily available. If you would like to use the traditional paints then either Dulux, Crown or Johnstone’s are without doubt the best on the market. However if you would like to use water based paints you are then looking a outstanding products from Caparol, Tikkarilla or Isomat

Dulux & Crown paints (trade ) are best on the market at the moment in the UK that you can use for interior redecoration. Doesn't matter for what surface are you using it for; walls, ceiling, woodwork, metal. The other brands of paint that are out there usually they are used for mist coat. So after the finish coat can be applied with Dulux or Crown. If you are trying to finish a job with other brands instead of Dulux or Crown, you will need to apply more coats than usual, and it will not last long.
