This completely depends on the type of door you own. If it is a wooden door then you would normally use a Mortice Lock at the centre of your door way and most people have a Nightlatch (commonly known as a Yale or Top Lock) further up the door for extra security. You could also have additional Deadbolts fitted in to your door. For a Mortice Lock I would always recommend a 5 Lever, British Standard as these are extremely difficult to open or break-in to plus they are insurance compliant. For a UPVC or Composite Door, I would receommend a 3 Star British Standard Euro Cylinder and a 2 Star Handle. These offer excellent security and are designed to prevent against Drilling, Snapping and Picking. The locking mechanism on these types of doors come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, I would definitely recommend a Mechanism including a Deadbolt and a minimum of 2 hooks which prevent against lifting of the door when the mechanism is engaged.

Hi, the type of lock needed depends on the door. If it is a upvc or composite door where you usually lift the handle before locking I would strongly recommend a British Standard 3☆☆☆ euro or 1☆ British standard lock with a 2☆☆ handle, fantastic security preventing lock snapping, bumping, picking and drilling. On a wooden door I recommend a 5 lever British standard mortice lock, if there is only a night latch usually called a yale lock then I recommend you add a 5 lever British standard lock to be insurance compliant. This depends on the make up of your door, for wooden doors I would recommend ( as do many insurers) a British standard (BS3621) mortice lock whether this be a deadlock used in conjunction with a night latch ( commonly known as a Yale lock) or as a sash lock which has a built in latch. For a upvc or composite door I would only consider an anti- snap break secure lock which are designed to withstand attack through the cylinder being snapped in half and the multipoint lock being manipulated and opened. These locks are available in many different sizes to suit the width of the door and where the multipoint lock sits within the door so I would always recommend getting a locksmith to replace the cylinder so it is fitted to the right length and your door is not left vulnerable.

It all depends on what type of door you have, if you have a wooden door we would recommend a 5 Leaver B/S mortice lock for the best security as this is an insurance approved lock. If you have a uPVC door we would recommend either a 1* or 3* British Standard Euro Cylinder. These locks are classed as Anti Snap, Pick and Drill which makes the door secure. This lock isn't a requirement by your insurance company but is worth the money if you're looking to upgrade and all new front doors now must come with a B/S lock as standard.

This entirely depends on the type of door that you have. If you have a timber door, you will more than likely have a mortice lock. The best lock in this situation is a 5 lever British Standard. If you can have extra deadlocks fitted, even better. If you have a composite or UPVC door then you will have a multipoint mechanism. Two important things to consider here. The mechanism and the cylinder (the barrel where you insert your key). The mechanism should ideally have hooks or pins that prevent lifting of the door and the cylinder should be three star rated to keep the door locked if the cylinder is attacked. 2 star security handles are also an option here which defend the cylinder and lock the handle in place via the spindle.

This will depend on the type of door; for timber then either a British Standard auto-deadlocking nightlatch and/or a BS3621 five lever mortice lock. For a uPvc or composite door with multipoint locking then a TS007 3* Euro cylinder, alternatively you can fit a British Standard 1* Euro cylinder with high security (2*) handles. You should also check with your insurance company as to their requirements as they will not provide your cover if you don’t meet their stated standards, hidden somewhere in the small print! Often customers find this out after an incident and find their claim refused.
