There is no script for this. One persons dream bathroom maybe the next persons nightmare bathroom. The best way is to get somebody out who will come and go through the design stage with you. Find out what it is you exactly want from your bathroom, is it a family bathroom or a place where you want to relax and unwind. A good bathroom expert will find out all this and design accordingly.

When designing a bathroom you have to firstly decide what you want from the space, is it a place where you just in and out or is this somewhere your going to relax and unwind. Will it be designed to suit a family or just adult space. The bigger the space the more options you will have eg what can go in it and where it can go. Try and make the most of the space with walk in showers, a nice bath and possible his and her sinks with vanity units

The best design/ layout is a very big area to consider. One bathroom layout could be the perfect room for one person where another’s need and use of the bathroom would find a different design their perfect bathroom. The design needs to fulfil the customers needs, their style in the size and shape of room they have. It’s more complicated than most rooms in a home so if possible getting advice from a bathroom design specialist can save a lot of stress and give you a bathroom that will last you 15 - 20 years I’d designed and built to the end users needs

The first step in designing a large or small bathroom is to consider the customers needs. Depending on age & number of users the customers needs can greatly vary & their are many products on the market to accommodate these needs. The second step is to create a product wish list, be prepared to drop some of the items depending on cost, installation constraints & overall space.

You have lots more options when you have a larger space for your bathroom. If it is a bathroom replacement and want to change where items are going you will need to consider that plumbing and pipework may also need to be altered. If you are having a new ceiling with lights installed, rated fixtures may also be needed depending on where damp locations are. Think about your focal point - a free standing bath makes a nice feature, as well as a 'his and hers' double vanity unit, a walk-in shower with alcoves, extra storage units etc. Think about your tiling as well - a larger space requires more tiling which add to the costs. Underfloor heating is also a popular choice nowadays and is something to think of - but your floor will need to be checked or made well insulated first.

With a large bathroom it can end up looking overly cluttered very quickly. So I always advise to try and plan the room out how you would use it on a daily basis ie Shower tray with screen, stand alone bath with taps, additional vanity unit or depending on the size of the actual room you could have addition sinks or space for storage or full length mirror. Planning ahead of how you want the final finish to look as a large bathroom would mean a lot of tiling, which is costly but there are other options that can be used to reduce costs. Lighting in a large bathroom is also important to reflect the rooms size. Heating a large bathroom is very important as a normal tail rail would not heat a room, looking at underfloor heating or an additional radiator could be a great addition.
