My best advice would be to ignore all the cheap and nasty stuff that you can get from your local DIY shops. Personally it’s Hikvision, that’s what I install and I’ve never encountered any problems. Good quality kit, good quality pictures and a smart looking system. Easy enough to install too.

Before stating what the best is I would like to advise avoiding cheap systems from ebay and amazon and other retailers as the image quality and the reliability is not great at all. Now the best for domestic properties we would say is Hikvision. Hikvision is a great quality product well built and offers much more than you cheapo brands. Dahua is another good systems to use.

It comes to what the camera needs to do and a budget. Hikvision do a POC camera range, the cameras are around 50% cheaper than their IP equivalents but there is a compromise as a result. A good camera doesn't help if its installed badly, or even the wrong place for the job it is to do.

It's almost impossible to answer this question without having more information. It depends on the layout of the area to be covered, light levels, position of the cameras and what specific requirements are needed from the system. A system to give a general overview of a driveway or rear garden for example, will use different equipment to a system that needs to give footage of an area that enables footage recorded to give evidence quality face recognition. No professional company will advise on the latter without a site visit and a chat to find out any specific requirements.
