JF Tree Services answered the question "What do tree surgeons do?"

Tree surgeons carry out many tree related services but essentially we care for and maintain trees. As trees form our natural surroundings and are part of our everyday life, maintenance is often needed to keep them in proportion to their surroundings and ensure a safe environment. Such operations include crown reductions, crown thinning, crown raising, pollarding and dead wooding. Tree felling is also a common aspect of the job as trees can get diseased, storm damaged or simply out grow their surroundings.

Tree surgeons plant, maintain and perform hazard assessments on trees. They also prune or cut down trees where necessary. Tree surgery can be a dangerous job - it involves use of power tools, a lot of climbing and working at height - so a high level of physical fitness is required.
