Time varies depending on what style door you have and lock type you are installing standard euro cylinder can take 2/5mins night latch lock 10/30minutes and if you require full locking mechanism repair or replacement can be done between 30/60 mins most will be done well within an hour but once priced then that is the price regardless of if it took 3 hours

It will depend on the lock or door it’s fitted to. If you are on a time limit wait until you have more time. Never have the installation of your security rushed. Basic cylinder changes can take between 10/20 mins. Full upvc door locks around 20/40 mins. Lock changing on a timber door 30/45 mins. Fresh (new never been done) installations on timber doors 45/1Hr +. These our estimates, each individual job can be unique. Check first with the installer.

changing a door lock on a UPVC door shouldn't take any longer than 10/15 minutes providing a key is available for the current lock, again a Yale type cylinder change on on a wooden door would normally take 10/15 minutes, a mortice lock change can take a while longer if adjustments are required this could be 30/40

If we have access to the lock, a Euro Cylinder on a UPVC or Composite Door should take no longer than a couple of minutes to change. A Mortice or Mortice Sash Lock can be changed quickly also, however, as there are many different shapes and sizes, some work may need to be done to ensure a secure fit and this can take longer as it can mean Chiseling the wood by hand. I would expect that the longest a Mortice Lock should take to be fitted is 1 hour, maximum. If your Multi-point Locking Mechanism on a UPVC or Composite Door needs to be replaced, this can again take quite a bit of time, especially if new handles or keeps are needed as well.

Changing a lock can take as little as a few minutes depending on lock type. A New cylinder to a Upvc door will be quick as most locksmiths carry a vast stock to cover all sizes. Other locks can take a while depending on type and whether it is up graded to British Standards .

Changing a lock on a UPvc door takes minutes as does composite door. An experienced locksmith will have the right tools for the job. It can be a bit longer on wooden doors as Mortice locks can be different sizes so some woodwork may be needed. Some Locksmiths use chisels (I do) and some use a Morticer which can be quicker. I own the latter but choose to do it by hand.

Hi, the time it takes to change the lock depends on the lock being changed. A upvc door lock can be changed in just a couple of minutes but something like a mortice lock on a wooden door may need some chisel work but should not take more than an hour from start to finish. If the door is locked with no keys then this will also take longer

How long does it take to change a lock? This will depend on what type of lock and what type of door. It could be a Euro cylinder to a composite door or a mortice lock to a wooden door. It could be that the occupant has lost keys or wants to upgrade it shouldn’t take any longer then 1 hour from measuring to fit the correct size to handing over the new keys.

The time it takes to change a lock varies on the type of door and existing lock you have. If you want a replacement that is like for like then we would allow 30 minutes to an hour. If a new lock needs to be fitted from fresh then it can take a bit longer. We can always estimate how long it would take to replace the lock but most of the time it can be completed within the hour. We don't charge by the hour so if we did over run it wouldn't affect the price.

This depends on the type of lock involved and whether keys are available and/or it is unlocked. If you are requiring a like for like replacement then the majority of lock changes should be achieved within an hour. If you require a new lock fitting then this will obviously take longer and will depend on the type of lock you require fitting. Any reputable locksmith will advise you before commencing work what options you have, how long it will take and more importantly how much it will cost.
