There are dwellings in England where the base coat of thatch is over 500 years old, unless severely damaged by fire for example, only the outer most part of a thatched roof is replaced. You can be reasonably confident that a well thatched roof will last 50 years or more, there are factors such as angle of pitch that have influences over longevity though.
