Most modern day windows come with a 10 year manufacturer guarantee. The old breed of Upvc had a lead stabilisation in them which could cause the Upvc to get a yellow or a pink hue to it over time from exposure to UV however for the last 15+ years the lead has been removed from the product which has made the Upvc more stable to keeping it's colour. A decent Upvc window if maintained properly should last way beyond the 10 years. The signs of it needed replacing is quite simple, if you start seeing gaps appear that you can see sunlight through or if you start feeling draughts i would get someone out to look at it.
