When planning any ground works or property extension it is a good idea to ensure you know where the drains run, at what depth and ideally what structural condition they are in - a drain survey can tick all of these boxes. If you are building over an existing drain your building inspector will request that you instruct a drain company to undertake a drain survey of the drain to assess the structural condition before your project commences and again on completion to ensure no damage has occurred.
