Where can LED lights be used in the home?
LED Lights can be used just about anywhere you want to light the only exception I am aware of is the cooker lights as they don't like the heat a cooker produces. Did you know if you change to LED lights it can save you up to 90% of your lighting cost by reduced electricity usage? They will also last a lot longer and LED lamps normally have a 3-5 yr warranty on them, so no changing lamps Good news
Do I need to undertake an electrical safety check before buying a house?
In Short, No but you would be unwise not to get one done as it would tell you the state of the wiring so you would know whether it is safe to move in or if work is required if work is required you would know what is involved and have a cost. you will be in a much better position to make the decision on the house. How would you feel if you didn't get it carried out and then wanted an extra socket fitted to find out then you need a full rewire? The guidance is an inspection should be carried out at least every 5yrs for rented properties and every 10 yrs for owner-occupied properties OR when tenants/owners change.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of an RCD?
An RCD is a lifesaving device which is designed to prevent you from getting an electric shock if a fault develops and can cause a metal casing to become live like a washing machine. and can help prevent fires from electrical faults. RCDs offer a level of personal protection that ordinary fuses and circuit breakers don't. Any domestic house has to have them fitted to every circuit to meet the regulations. As for disadvantages there aren't any as they will detect a fault long before any danger exists
