What is the best paint to use for skirting boards?

I prefer to use oil based satinwood on skirting boards, door frames etc .Satin is a mid shine finish which will stay whiter for longer rather than gloss. It is down to the customer to chose if the paint is to be shiny or not , either water based or oil based.most important is to use an undercoat no matter what paint you go for .

Can you paint matt over silk paint?

Yes it is possible ,there are a few of ways to do that : Sanding all the shine off properly with a sandpaper but bare in mind that is hard work and time consuming. An easier way and what i am usually doing (recommended by Dulux as well) is applying a coat of soft sheen paint over the silk . As an alternative ( haven’t tried yet but is being recommended by other painters ) is to apply a coat of zinsser Gardz as a base coat.I hope this helps

Is painting exterior brick a good idea?

It can be , depending on what you prefer.It is very important that the correct paint is used and the work is carried out by a decorator as might create problems in the future . Painting over the bricks will require maintenance as the weather will play its part . As an advice make sure the bricks are clean and treated prior to painting .
