How often should a house be rewired?

It depends on what cable was used and the condition it's in. Modern cables should last 60+ years. An EICR carried out by a qualified electrician would let you know the condition of your cables and your equipment. Most of the time it's how the cables were fitted in the first place that can cause issues.
